Samantha Thavasa

Samantha Thavasa’s bags are everywhere in Japan. If you can’t afford the must have Louis Vuitton handbags, then Samantha Thavasa is your next choice. The stores are covered in photos of Beyonce, Paris Hilton, Posh Spice and other celebrities-by-definition holding her bags or wearing her jewellery.

So, naturally, I thought it was an American or English brand name.

Not so. Samantha Thavasa, despite the name, is a brand born in Japan. And an expensive brand too. You may as well go for Louis Vuitton for the amount that you pay.

While not in my style personally, it’s Japanese fashion that I’m supposed to write about, and Samantha Thavasa is definitely one of the big-name brands here. The label will be opening a store soon in New York too. When the posters of Beyonce and Paris Hilton get circulated around there, it’s sure to be a success. Buy now from Japan while the prices are only moderately extortionate!

    Hi.. Just one question!
Somebody knows, which date will be the japan fashion week?
    Regards
    Michy

  2. Wessel Says:

Japanese fashion is “westernizing” really fast. :(

    I don’t know if that’s an excisting word :O~

  3. Zerø (BRAZIL) Says:

    See ya!

  4. Rebecca Says:

I want to model for you.I am an up coming model.Very creative!

  5. Louis Vuitton Says:

“Not so. Samantha Thavasa, despite the name, is a brand born in Japan. And an expensive brand too. You may as well go for Louis Vuitton for the amount that you pay. ” Why would you buy LV when there7s ST? you must be some kinda stoopid.

  6. Jamie Says:

Samantha Thavasa bags are pretty ugly for the price (much like every designer bag except for some Vivienne Westwood, John Paul Gaultier, and Yves Saint Laurent ones), but the Samantha Vega line can be cute. I guess they’re by the same company..? After staying in Japan for a year I wanted to puke everytime I saw one of those Louis Vuitton monogram or pink, furry Samantha Thavasa bags. Worse yet are the ones with her name written all over the bag in various (ugly) patterns, lol.

If you haven’t done so already, I think you should spotlight the Barbie-style fashion (I forget exactly what it was called in Japanese; brands like Liz Lisa and Cecil McBee, etc.) and those hideous, stiletto-heeled, pointy-toe shoes everyone wears there.

Japanese fashion can either be really great or really horrible.

  7. Chidade Says:

@Louis Vuitton: I don’t buy either :P Because I’m not going to pay several hundred dollars on a really ugly handbag when I could have a collection of Nintendo DS games for the same amount.

I watch the fashion here in Japan, but I don’t really partake of it :P

@Jamie: I agree with you. There’s a lot of hideous stuff here. The shoes always depress me, mainly because of the sizes (or lack thereof) but I’ll try to find something about the shoes I can post about.

i own one samantha thavasa tote, which i found (surprise’surprise) in a vintage shop in Lyon, France. I thought it just another many failed designer, but the quality of the bag, a combination of suede, canvas and patent leather is amazing, and the bag is sturdy too. I’m surprised that this brand actually from Japan. Wonder where is the original owner of this fabulous tote. Mind you, the price I had to pay is quite high, but after I found this site, it seems sensible to me. Look forward for my next shopping trip to Japan later this year

  9. Erin Gill Reilly Says:

i just got a samantha thavasa bag for my birthday and it’s gorgeous. the leather is particularly beautiful. make fun all you want, it’s a beautiful, rich brown leather bag. excellent quality. Erin

  10. Samantha thavasa fan Says:

Everybody who is stylish in the states loves Samantha thavasa! Like hilton sisters, bri, ….etc. I have 6 bags but I want more!!

  11. Nora Says:

I LOVE SAMANTHA THAVASA. I was in Japan this summer and when I saw the brand I fell in love. Yeah, it’s a little on the expensive side…but…as we all know…money shouldn’t be an issue if you’re looking for something you like. If you buy a Louis Vuitton for the brand…you’re buying it for the wrong reason…

  12. Gina Mae Says:

Where can I purchase a Samantha Thavasa handbag in Hawaii? I would prefer purchasing one at a retail store.

  13. Kelly Says:

SAMANTHA THAVASA is one of those nice celebrity brand with very nice quality. I guess for people who don’t know much about fashion and style would make fun of it.

  14. poop Says:

They are so cute. In Japan, this brand is target towards to more like teenager -early 20s. …

  15. Tiny Says:

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if there is a way to order some of these bags via an online store? I can’t find it on their website T_T|||

  16. DracheMitch Says:

Samantha Thavasa is not a real person, the name is in the same vein as Isabella Fioré or Betty Crocker.

  17. Lilly Says:

Who is “Samantha Vega”? I googled her and nothing came up. (I’m in American by the way.)

  18. Lilly Says:

Eesh. I meant to say that I was American. Not “I’m in American…” HAHAHAHA.

  19. Wendiva Says:

I LOVE Samantha Thavasa, it’s the only thing California doesn’t have. Now that I’m living in Tokyo, I’ve been splurging on Samantha Thavasa, it’s my new addiction!!

  20. yoshi Says:

Does anyone know where I can purchase Samantha Thavasa online or in the US?

  21. yumiko Says:

i honestly dont see why everyones praising s.t. so much—like, the bags arnet necessarily ugly, but theyre not cute, original, unique in ANY way. theyre just like,,, bags made of expensive material in bright girly colours. nothing special at alllll.
dear kelly, “I guess for people who don’t know much about fashion and style would make fun of it”????? uhrm,, do you actually happen to know a thing about the uniqueness, the originality, the beauty of fashion at all?? you people arent accepting this in any way— only the fashion and style that everybody else seems to like–as a trend

  22. April Says:

Omg, i seriously love this brand. the wallet and bags are gorgeous! i don’t mind paying few K for it.

  23. tearlight Says:

Samantha Thavasa may be one of most popular but somehow, when talking of Japanese fashion, Ana Sui is first who flashes through my mind (although I know that she did not start her fashion career in Japan).
Anyway, if you are looking for something fresh, I advice you South Corean designers (well, that’s a thing!) :)

    P.S. http://www.yesstyle.com :) I am in love with panda bag! :)

  24. Joey Says:

Absolutely in love with Samantha Thavasa.
This year I got myself a Samantha Vega! Amazingly Stylish for the price paid.

  25. Samantha Says:

I fell in love with these bags in Tokyo. Ueno OIOI! I told the shop people that my name is Samantha and that got a nice laugh from them. It’s so cool to see that the Japanese people are so obsessed with my name: Samantha Thavasa, Samantha Vega, Samantha Tiara. Hehehehe. I buy a new bag everytime I’m in Tokyo, Osaka, or New York.
