Japanese Fashion = Mental Retardation?
Someone in the comments from the previous posts said this: “One thing the Japanese will never understand is that randomly throwing piece of colored garbage on their body is not called fashion its just mental retardation.”
Now, I may not find myself wearing like a Japanese because it’s not my style but to call it garbage is a whole different story. Dear commentor who wrote that, you need to be more open with your views. You may not like the clashes of color in Japanese street fashion or the elaborate costumes, that’s fine but you do not have to piss on it. Just walk away.
Anyway, look at this eco-friendly option made from lingerie.
Too bad they won’t promote it.I would buy it.

I once saw about 15 bouquets of still fresh flowers thrown in the trash in an alley in Kabukicho. Maybe the commenter just had a more positive view of what garbage is.
Maybe not…

I must admit that I am somewhat japanophobe, but I prefer throwing peanuts to scare away the most frightening specimen, walking away or changing my course because of annoying people is not my style. But on the fashion matter… let’s take an example with food.
I love: Nutella, Camember, bacon, Mirabelle Jam (rare fruit only grown is the east of France), bread and white chocolate. BUT I will never make a lunch with everything in the same plate.
Now back to “harajuku” fashion. Random colors, most of the time if you ask them, they just put on the clothes they like… at the same time… without any research to know if they were making something visually coherent. It’s not about japanese having different taste. It’s just this category of people who compose absolutely nothing worthy of interest and call it a fashion.
I am not here talking about all the example in the video. Just, the color-garbage people.
We can also speak of the goth. They could be found a little excessive. Personnaly I appreciate their attire when it fit their behaviour. Because nothing is worse than someone wearing leather better than a viking, shouting kawai and cuddling with every poodle, meanwhile if they kill puppies and throw rocks at old people, I can understand better. The problem is often that they, don’t compose anything, just by premade “sets” and wear them like they wear their school uniforms on monday. It’s kinda… empty on the inside. If they are just a tools… at least they should be transparent… not annoying, the side “look at me I’m special… by doing… like everybody else” get old real fast.

Sense of fashion cannot be equated to food. Comparing the two is like saying apple is orange, no doubt they’re both fruits but they are different fruits if you get what I mean? But to make a point to you, I personally dislike the taste of Camembert cheese because I think it smells and feels like puke but I don’t go saying people who eat Camembert are eating excrements because of my personal distaste on the cheese, do I?
I suggested that you walk away instead of making harsh impetuous comments on J-fashion because I understand your distaste for it. I wouldn’t wear something like that but that’s just out of personal taste. And I would not impose my fashion sense by discounting other’s, it’s just a matter of civility and politeness.
You being a Japanophobe and reading 3Yen is truly laughable. Why the hell are you reading a Japanese blog for the English masses if you are phobic of Japanese stuff? Masochist, aren’t you? :)

Though I am too old to wear like ‘Harajuku’ guys (only limited to pre-teens I think), I don’t find them put random colors and turn into color-garbage. Their style is well-recognized and might need different aesthetic viewpoint to understand.
Being an asian and having been to many western cities, I think Tokyo is packed with well-dressed teenagers while people elsewhere seem a little bit dull; dress too safe and cannot enjoy the whole spectrum of color, afraid of vivid colors.
“It’s not about japanese having different taste.”
No, Japanese have different taste. Better taste, I’d say.

Maybe do not validate this message -if you will- as I decide to leave you the last published word.
I remain on my position that according the status of fashion to this http://www.flickr.com/photos/chidadenet/127944827/ and putting it in the same level a EGA for example http://fashion.3yen.com/2007-04-18/elegant-gothic-aristrocrat/ Is somewhat disturbing.
Can just putting clothes -errr stuff- on a body be considered fashion all the time…
The first example look like the result of dumpster diving. The second show steampunk/dieselpunk cross over with victorian inspiration. Ok, both are difficult to wear daily on the street. But not exactly for the same reasons…
Is this fashion or juste thrift store leftover:http://bestoftheblogs.com/uploaded_images/wifebeater-706264.jpg If this guy was japanese… it would surely be called fashion (ginza, harajuku, whatever other metro station name)
There’s some rednecks in japan… But just because they are japanese they are given a god like status. It’s a little ridiculous…
Sorry if I stick around a little more, you are one of the least ‘head up his @ss’ japlog…

I’m really sorry this guy likes Mirabelle Jam.
To me you don’t deserve mirabelle. It’s too much of a good thing for someone with such hatred for other cultures.
I’m happy I learnt to get out of awful grey and beige by studying Japanese culture.
Colorfobia is a common disease, let’s heal it with Italian and Japanese fashion!

I think I’ve seen that somewhere else. To be honest, I like the idea. It’s the eco-friendly bra. I wonder if it comes in my size…

I think the Japanese fashion is very unique and different. Why you would make fun of it is beyond me. Alot of people in America dress so seriously and safe but look so boring, American fashion can barely scratch the surface, it borrows mostly everything from Europe. Back to the subject, it is not garbage that they put lots of colors together, that is their style, if you really know and understand fashion, if you really have a love for it you should know that fashion is ultimately art, and artistic values can never be right or wrong it depends on your inner feelings so you have no right to judge someones fashion because it is self expression, self expression is beautiful and should be unique. If you want to talk trash about other peoples styles then go back to middle school and take some courses on growing up.
